Where: Ciudad Neily (Costa Rica) – David (Panama) – Panama City – Puerto Lindo
Distance: 2505 to 2595 miles
Our trip through Panama is best summed up by ten words and a few photos:
‘Dangerous road, took bus, impressive canal, explored city, booked boat’
Sarah shows her disapproval of the horrendous cycling experience that is the Panamanian Pan-American. Although the hard shoulder looks good in the photo it was not!
Our bus saved us time, money and our sanity which will be put to better use in the Andes. Seeing the monotonous scenery and heavy traffic from our air conditioned bus reassured us that we had made the right decision.
Taking the bus meant we could enjoy the delicious food on offer at the bus station – meatballs and deep fried dough thing for Sarah and two iced buns and an apple turn over for Geoff, not forgetting the perfect Panamanian coffee to wash it all down.
‘That’s a big building!’ – Panama Canal
‘That’s a big boat!’ – Panama Canal
Panama City is the biggest city we’ve encountered so far in the trip and cycling around took quite a bit of getting used to.
